A Grand Rapids family has been reunited with their missing dog after a car accident over the weekend.

WZZM-13 reports that the accident happened Saturday near Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street. When police arrived to the scene, the family's dog, Nahla, ran away.

The driver, Steve Litell, whose car had gone into a ditch, told WZZM-13 that it took him a few minutes to realize Nahla was gone.

After the family posted on Facebook and contacted WZZM-13, Litell says information started coming in.

A woman called to say she thought she had found the dog near the accident scene and taken her to Kent County Animal Shelter.

When the family arrived, it was indeed their dog, Nahla. After paying for a dog license, shelter fees, and an updated rabies shot, she got to go home with the Litells.

The family says it's wonderful to have Nahla back home:

"I want to thank everyone that posted and donated to the Go Fund Me page, we wouldn't have been able to get her out without the help. It's a good Christmas Present."

The Littels say they will donate the Go Fund Me funds to the shelter and encourage everyone to get their animals microchipped and licensed.
