I love Grand Rapids and all it has to offer with local music, so I decided why not feature local bands here on wgrd.com! Todays featured Bury The Silence, they answered a few questions for me below! Check them out, and if your in a local band and want to be featured then answer the same questions and email them along with a video to Jackie@wgrd.com, I don’t just feature anyone, so don’t suck and you’ll get the Jackie stamp of approval ;) Find me on facebook too, to follow all your favorite local bands, and GRD news by clicking HERE

Band Name
Aside the Ashes

Name
Ryan Crandell

Who are all the members of your band, and what do they play?
Ryan Crandell (me): Vocals

Weston Wylie: Bass/Vocals
Jake Jazwinski: Drums
Brad Saggins: Guitar
Adam Reister: Guitar

When did the band get together, and how?
The band had been playing under a different name for a year or two and had a couple shows. Weston replaced the old bass player and shortly after brought Jake in on drums. A name change occurred and shortly after that Ryan was brought in as a new front man. Since, the band has played 30 ish shows and also recently finished an ep. We are working on a music video.

How would you describe your music to someone?
It is hard to pigeon hole our music to one specific sound. There are hints of hair bands from the 80's, metal-core from the early 2000's and hardcore / metal from now. We have been likened to August Burns Red, and others.

Who are some of the bands that influence your music?
Bands that influence our music / bands that we listen to include all the popular metal and hardcore bands from the scene today including August Burns Red, Attila, Memphis May Fire, and Miss May I. As well as bands from an older generation like Pantera, Metallica, Motley Crue and others.

What other bands have your members been/are in?
Jake and Weston were previously in another band called After Prior Day.

What other local bands would you recommend people check out?
Other local bands I recommend people check out include, but are not limited to, Wilson and Fine Fine Titans.

Where is your favorite place to play in Grand Rapids?
Our favorite place to play in Grand Rapids (so far) has been Mulligans. It is definitely not the biggest, but the atmosphere and party that goes on during a mulligans show cannot be beat. We have played in front of a full house at the Intersection during battle of the heavyweights finals as well as other bigger shows, but the most fun has been at Mullies.
Where can we catch you performing next?
Our next show will be our ep release show with many other great local acts. To be kept in the loop on this and any other band related news just find our facebook page HERE
