Beachgoers will get to enjoy the iconic Grand Haven Pier through mid-August this summer.

After that, WZZM-13 reports, the pier will be closed through around July 17, 2017 for repairs.

City Manager of Grand Haven Pat McGinnis told WZZM-13:

Regular expected wear and tear and it's been getting worse, the last ten years the city council and myself we've been lobbying the federal government saying we'd like you to get this pier replaced because if it fails we're going to be in a world of hurt."

The Federal Government is putting in over two million dollars to help repair the pier; The city of Grand Haven is trying to raise an additional $200,000 for further repairs.
