KFC donated $30,000 after one of its restaurants in Jackson, Mississippi reportedly asked the family of a 3-year-old girl to leave because scars she has from a pit bull attack were frightening other customers.

There’s one big problem, though: the whole incident appears never to have happened.

The restaurant did a little digging around and found Victoria Wilcher’s family was not even in the KFC in question on the day in question last month.

While KFC tried to do PR control by apologizing and forking over the money, it remained skeptical and found no surveillance footage of Victoria in the restaurant.

Prior to the incident, Victoria’s family had been raising money on GoFundMe to pay for her medical bills, but had only collected about $600. After word about what allegedly happened at KFC spread, they raked in $135,000, while a Las Vegas doctor stepped in and offered to operate on Victoria free of charge.

Amazingly, KFC plans to honor the donation even if it’s proven the family made up the tall tale. The KFC franchise owner said, "They have pledged the money even if it is proven that the incident never happened. At this point their story is full of holes. Any thinking person who follows their timeline can see it. The event at KFC never happened.”

A lawyer for Victoria’s family, meanwhile, says she isn’t sure if they will keep the KFC money.

Despite the mounting evidence, a Facebook page called Victoria's Victories denied any allegations of wrongdoing:

I promise its not a hoax, I never thought any of this would blow up the way it has. The article circling the web calling this a hoax is untrue. The article it self say the investigation is not complete. It is not over until KFC releases a statement. The media outlet running this story is not connected with KFC. The family has not asked for anything, a attorney is handling all the media publicity for the family pro bono. Please do not believe untrue media. I have personally watched this family go without to provide for Victoria. They have not and would not do anything to hurt Victoria in any way.
