Over Christmas, I did quite a bit of traveling. I got to see an array of gas prices throughout Michigan.

In my family's home of South Haven, the lowest I saw was $1.87 per gallon. Near West Branch (sort of mid to upper Michigan) where my boyfriend is from, gas was the steep price of $2.22!

Funny, but that price seems high compared to what we've been seeing here in West Michigan.

And prices continue to go down! In Grand Haven, gas prices were as low as $1.66 per gallon Monday. In Grand Rapids, the lowest price was $1.82 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

According to WZZM-13 gas prices have dropped about 17 cents a gallon statewide in the last week. AAA Michigan says the average price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.06 on Sunday. A year ago it was $3.40.

This is the seventh consecutive week for falling prices. Statewide prices are at their lowest level in more than five years.

But will they stay that way?

Patrick DeHaan from Gas Buddy predicts oil prices will rise soon. However he says $1.66 per gallon on the lakeshore is only eight cents higher than the cheapest gasoline in the country.
