I was really starting to look through all of the Games to Try Before You Die posts and see what I have not done! As I was looking through, I can't beleive that I have not done this one yet! How could I miss it? This game was amazing! This is the game that changed how we play 3D platformers! It's freakin' Super Mario 64!

What: It's Super Mario 64! How do you not know what this game is? Well just in case you don't. In Super Mario 64, you play as...you guessed it, Mario! Mario is invited to Princess Peach's Castle because she baked or some s**t like that. As Mario approaches the door, Bowser alerts Mario that he has stolen the Power Stars and has sealed Princess Peach within' the castle walls! Mario must jump into paintings that hold different types of worlds, complete the task, collect the stars, and save the Princess!

Why: This was the first Nintendo 64 game I ever owned! Also it is the first Nintendo 64 game that I ever played! Before I owned a N64, we rented one from Family Video and this game. From that point forward, I was hooked! People wondered how Mario would transfer to the 3D playing ground and wondered if it would be any good. Well he did, and it was amazing! Super Mario 64 was the first of it's kind, and 3D platforming games afterwards owe Mario 64 that honor of being the first that did it well. Think about it, Devil May Cry, Banjo Kazooie, etc...it all started with Mario 64.

The game was a lot of fun! Finding stars was challenging, but not so challenging that is made the game difficult, except for those 100 coin stars....jeez! The music was a lot of fun and many of tunes are still used in Mario games today. Hell, I even have the soundtrack to this game! Never know when you'll need it right? The use of the brand new Analog stick on the N64 controller gave Mario a free range of movement with back flips, crouching, etc. Mario could really do anything! He could even fly if you got the 'wing cap!'

Super Mario 64 was a pioneer of a video game when it came out, and is still as fun as it was when it first game out. Younger kids looking at it today may think it looks all blocky and stupid, but never forget your roots kids. This is where the 2D turned to 3D, and we loved it!

Damn, this game is fantastic. One of my favorites for sure!
