Better Business Bureau Serving West Michigan is hosting a free shredding event in Grand Rapids on Friday, April 21.

The free shredding will be held at Calvary Church at 707 East Beltline NE in Grand Rapids from noon - 2PM.

Tax time brings a good opportunity to destroy old documents with personal information including bank statements, tax returns, paycheck stubs, medical information and any other documents that could be harmful if they fall into the wrong hands.

Simply throwing these documents into the trash can lead to identity theft. The BBB says more than half of identity theft victims can trace the origin of the problem to something that was stolen.

The free shredding provides a simple way to protect your identity and your assets.

The shredding event is limited to five boxes per person.
