This weekend marks 40 years since Gerald R. Ford became the 38th President of the United States.

He took over the presidency after Richard Nixon resigned as a result of the Watergate scandal.

To commemorate this event, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum will be free to the public this Saturday, August 9.

On August 9, 1974, Ford "assumed the office in a bloodless transfer of power, and restored the faith in the nation, and that's what we must really thank Gerald Ford for," Jim Kratsas of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum told WZZM-13.
