Would you wait in line for hours to celebrate the birthday of a building?

Probably not.

Well, the people of Houston are a little different.

Thursday was the 50th birthday of the Houston Astrodome. The 70,000-seat stadium, currently named NRG Astrodome, opened in 1965 as the world’s first domed stadium.

In honor of the milestone, thousands of people lined up and waited in line for hours to go inside, snap a few pictures and sing happy birthday to a building that is no longer used, Houston's KHOU-TV 11 reported.

The fate of the Astrodome is still up in the air. Currently, the leading possibility is to turn it into an indoor park, according to KHOU-TV.
