Remember when you were in elementary school and you'd trade lunches with your friend?

Maybe he had a snack pack and you had string cheese, but you both wanted what the other one had. You'd simply trade.

Well one eighth-grader at Weaverville Elementary School in Weaverville, Calif., got detention for doing just that: trading lunches, KRCR News Channel 7 reported.

Thirteen-year-old Kyle Bradford shared his chicken burrito with a friend who wasn't really pleased with the cheese sandwich the cafeteria gave him. However, according to school district rules, students sharing lunches is strictly prohibited.

The district's reasoning is that some students may have allergies and there are also hygiene issues that come into play when students share food.

The child simply wanted to help out his friend by giving him food he was going to throw away anyway.

Obviously, his mother is mad at the school for their decision and says she will encourage her son to do the same thing if the situation arises again.
