At Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, a red carpet reporter tried to compliment actress and producer Rashida Jones on her "tan."

TNT correspondent Danielle Demski said: "You look like you've just come off like an island or something, you're very tan, very tropical."

Jones' response was perfect.

The 38-year-old Jones pointed out the obvious, saying: "I mean, you know, I'm ethnic."

It's not clear if Demski realized what a dumb statement that was or if she remained oblivious.

However, Demski laughed and replied: "It's just being ethnic. That's what it is."

Jones is the daughter of music legend Quincy Jones (who is black) and actress Peggy Lipton (white).

That would probably explain Jones' ethnic look.

This is very reminiscent of when Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) told Karen Filippelli (Jones) that she was "very exotic looking. Was your dad a G.I.?" on "The Office."
