A 57-foot dead fin whale washed up on the beach recently near San Diego.

After being towed back out to sea a few weeks ago, it reappeared just days later when strong Pacific Ocean tides in the area brought it back.

It was dismantled by heavy equipment while scientists used it as an opportunity to study the fin whale, since it's pretty rare that they wash up on the beach.

The process took a couple of days.
