Free Beer & Hot Wings: Dan Maurer Talks About His 100-Pound Scrotum and Surgery for a ‘Semi-Normal Life’ [Audio/Video]

On "The Free Beer & Hot Wings Show" on Tuesday, we talked about Dan Maurer. The 39-year-old Burlington, Mich., man is suffering from Scrotal Lymphedema, causing his scrotum to balloon to somewhere between 75 and 100 pounds.

He went through a long period of time where he was misdiagnosed, but doctors finally pinpointed what needs to be done to get him healthy again.

We tracked Dan down this morning and got a chance to talk to him on the show.

He explained to us that, unfortunately, the surgery he needs costs about $20,000.

He said:

The doctor that specializes in that type of surgery is who I would prefer to remove the 75-pound growth on my abdomen, (but) is not covered by my insurance. ... I don't see any other way to live a semi-normal life."

He's set up a GoFundMe page and is currently more than halfway to his goal. In addition, there's a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser for him 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Robin's Nest Hall,16181 10 Mile Road in Battle Creek, Mich.
