The year was 1979 and Sony had a breakthrough in portable electronics.

The electronics company released the Walkman, which revolutionized the music industry by letting someone conveniently carry and listen to their music wherever they were.

The Walkman was basically the iPod, 20 years before the iPod. After about a 30-year run, the Walkman was discontinued in 2010, although Walkman MP3 players are still on the market.

Nowadays, seeing a Walkman is like a trip back in time. A kid growing up now has zero concept of this old technology, much in the same way we have a hard time grasping things that our parents grew up with.

Check out this video of these young children experiencing a Walkman for the first time. They're completely confused by this "technology."
