The ownership of the guitar Kurt Cobain used during Nirvana‘s MTV Unplugged appearance is being questioned. Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, wants to have it legally returned to her possession from her ex-husband, Isaiah Silva.

TMZ is reporting that Frances has filed legal paperwork to get back the 1959 Martin D-18E, which Silva is claiming that she gave it to him as a wedding present and therefore has no legal recourse. Frances denied the gift and called the guitar a “priceless family heirloom.” While this is being decided by the courts, Frances wants the instrument to be held in storage by an art shipping company to ensure its safety. Page Six notes that it had once been insured for $1 million. It is believed that the guitar, which was modified so that the left-handed Cobain could use it, is the last one he ever played.

The couple were married on June 2014 after having been together for five years, but divorced last year after 21 months of marriage. At the time, Frances said that Silva has no right to anything she inherited from her father, whose estate has been valued at $450 million. Silva, the frontman for the Los Angeles band the Eeries, has sought $300,000 per year in support.

Back in July, Frances, the 24-year-old-daughter of Kurt and Courtney Love, began selling her artwork online. In addition to working as a visual artist since 2010, she’s also served as the executive producer of the HBO documentary about her father, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, despite having admitted that she doesn’t “really like Nirvana that much.”
