An FBI Agent from Las Vegas was arraigned Wednesday morning on three felony charges after shooting at a Grand Rapids police officer early Tuesday morning.

WOOD-TV says 35-year-old Ruben Hernandez was charged with:

  1. Felonious Assault
  2. Assault with Intent to do great bodily harm; and
  3. Brandishing a Weapon in public.

He is currently being held on a $70,000 bond.

The incident occurred at about 1:20 a.m. when Hernandez walked into the Planet Fitness gym on 28th Street and pulled out his gun. A detective from the Grand Rapids Police Department stated that Hernandez:

“brandished a firearm while making some disturbing comments while walking around the facility...”

He didn't fire any shots and no one was injured. However, when an officer responded to the scene, Hernandez shot at the cop car and before eventually surrendering. The officer did not shoot back.

His attorney says that his client felt paranoid and that people were "out to get him." He believes alcohol may have played a factor into his actions.

Earlier in the evening, Hernandez and his partner went out for dinner and then to a nightclub where they had drinks.

Hernandez and his partner were apparently in Grand Rapids to work on an undisclosed case. They were supposed to go back to Vegas on Wednesday.

He is allowed to leave the state as long as he comes back for his court dates. He could face up to 10 years in prison.
