I’ve said it before.  I’m not a huge sports fan.  I was a really big fan when I was a kid, but as the years went on and I got older, I got less and less interested.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy going to sporting events and watching games on TV, but I just don’t get in to it nearly as much as I used to.  I think that all of the “work stoppages” over the years kinda bummed me out on sports.  If you get paid millions to play A GAME, don’t complain.  Just play your game and be happy you’re not digging ditches.

Now, the one thing I really do enjoy is gimmicks at sporting events.  As you probably know, Zane does the in-house public address for the local AHL team.  They do a pretty good job of keeping the fans entertained in between periods with things like the beer can race, pizza toss and my favorite, the human slingshot.

At Friday’s game, after Zane announced that the human slingshot was up next, another member of the staff turned the tables on Zane and told him to come out on the ice and ride the length of the ice on the little saucer!  Luckily, I had just enough time to pull out my phone and capture it all.

That looks like way too much fun and I really wanna try it.  They should spice it up a bit, though.  Maybe a ramp at center ice?  I just wish I had been recording for the girl that went before Zane.  They put the rubber bands a little too high up her back, causing her to fall forward and smack her face on the ice.  It was awesome, but I kinda felt bad.  If the video surfaces, I’ll be sure to post it!

Have you ever taken part in one of these events?
