A 93-year-old woman drowned in Lake Michigan Friday, in an area between South Haven and Saugatuck.

WZZM-13 reports that the victim Elizabeth Bennet lived nearby in Ganges Township and was known to swim in Lake Michigan regularly, on an almost daily basis.

Witnesses saw Bennet enter Lake Michigan with a styrofoam raft she often took with her swimming, but they did not see her come back out.

Around 4:30p.m. police, rescue, and fire were called to the scene of an apparent drowning where efforts to resuscitate the victim failed.

A medical condition has not been ruled out. An autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.
