How is it that politicians are still using recording artists' music without permission?

Saying "Hey, can I please use your song?" just seems like the right thing to do, if not legally correct. But, these are politicians we are talking about here.

Dropkick Murphys are the latest band to to step up and tell a politician to step off. 

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker used the band’s hit “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” as his entrance music before a speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit.


A.V. Club, Dropkick Murphys, who are pro-workers’ rights, have been at odds with Governor Walker since 2011, when he introduced a bill that aimed to limit the collective bargaining rights of unions.
