Many of you felt I was harsh in my assessment of him. A few of you even stated on Facebook that you felt the punishment was fitting.

Well, there's more to that story now, and you may change your tune.

Police are now saying that the 24-year-old man who shot the video first punched and choked his girlfriend (in front of their child) before parading her out into the street in a towel, which he eventually pulled off of her.

Jason Melo is now awaiting arraignment on assault charges. Police arrested him Wednesday after his 22-year-old girlfriend filed a report.

His girlfriend claims that he threatened to kill her if she didn't go out in the towel.

Melo said on Instagram that he feels "bad as a man" but that others would have done "something crazier" if they went through the same experience.

He continued on, saying:

Maybe I made a mistake, doing what I did, taking her out naked in the beginning. If I could go back in time I wouldn't do it. Because in my mind, so much has happened to me.

Prior to the apology post, Melo had posted a satire version of the video with a topless man in it.

New York City first lady Chirlane McCray made reference to this case in a statement Thursday:

Today's arrest sends a clear message that domestic violence is heinous crime and the glorification of one's violent actions on social media will lead to an immediate response.
