More and more schools in Michigan are starting before Labor Day, despite the law that technically makes it illegal for schools to do so.  Schools can apply for waivers to the law in order to start class in August, and this year a record number of schools applied.

It was about 10 years ago that the law was passed that required schools to start after Labor Day, but with more and more schools asking for waivers to start early, this law may be overturned.  A bill is currently in the Michigan Congress to decide what the next step may be.
