Do you Have Verizon or Sprint Cell Service? They May Owe you a Refund

Sprint and Verizon Wireless will be paying customers who were “crammed” on their cell phone bills, according to a settlement that was announced Tuesday.

Sprint agreed to a $68 million settlement and Verizon agreed to a $90 million settlement.

Cell phone cramming generally involves a monthly fee of $9.99 for premium text message subscription services like horoscopes, trivia, and sports scores.

A lot of times, people don’t know they’re signing up for these services and don't notice the charges on their bills.

“Sprint and Verizon had flawed billing systems that allowed merchants to add unauthorized charges to wireless customer bills,”. Consumer Financial Protection Board Director Richard Cordray said in a statement Tuesday. “Consumers bore the brunt of those charges and ended up paying millions of dollars while the companies reaped profits. Today’s actions will put $120 million back into the pockets of harmed consumers and require these companies to improve their billing practices going forward.”
