September 21, 2011 The 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival bulldozed its way into downtown Grand Rapids, as Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Wingstock 2011 headliner Seether, Bullet For My Valentine and Escape The Fate took over Van Andel Arena. August 22, 2011 Thunder, lightning and a torrential downpour could not deter GRD listeners from getting a taste of all the great brews available at the first ever GRD Craft Beer Festival, presented by D&W Fresh Market, this past Saturday at John Ball Park in Grand Rapids. A line of people was already forming before gates were scheduled to open at 1pm. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had to be a little uncooperative as a massive thunderstorm delayed gates for an hour. Luckily, the skies cleared up and people drank up.
Even the grungy apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Frances Bean Cobain, the 18-year-old daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love, showed off her tattoos and puffed on a cigarette for a series of black-and-white photos taken by fashion designer Hedi Slimane.
August 4, 2011 Glam metal was the theme in Grand Rapids Wednesday night (August 3) as Motley Crue, Poison and the New York Dolls took over the stage of Van Andel Arena for a GRD show. How many times have you wrestled with one of those unwieldy packing tape rollers when boxing things up to move or to put in storage? Unless you maneuver it just right, the tape won’t stay straight and winds up twisting over itself into a useless, tangled ball of frustration.
Artists Sven Jonke, Cristoph Katzler and Nikola Radeljkovic have taken this sticky situation and turned it into a work of art, creating the massive, interactive packing tape installation Numen/For Use.
