Every year, Rob Scallon uses May to celebrate Metallica with May-tallica. He began this month with a crazy cover of "Master of Puppets" on banjo last week. This week, he kicks it up a notch, with his cover of the lead song from ...And Justice For All, "Blackened", on ukulele. Complete with guitar solo!

Congratulations to Jim Matz from Muskegon for winning our Metallica in Minneapolis Flyway! Jim and his wife are heading to Minnesota in August to the sold out show at US Bank Stadium, to see Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, and Volbeat!

On Wednesday, Killswitch Engage descended on Grand Rapids, with Memphis May Fire, Toothgrinder, and 36 Crazyfists to make as much noise as possible at The Intersection. The place was packed, and everyone was having a blast with the bands!

Not surprisingly, it's not the metal bands who cause the problems. A crazed Russian "Christian" lurked in the Saint Petersburg airport, awaiting the arrival of some metal bands. Metallica rocked the hell out of a packed record store on Saturday evening, and streamed it online. If you missed it, you missed an hour of songs taken from Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning, and an impromptu jam of "Helpless" at the beginning. It wasn't on the setlist, but the guys jammed their way through it anyway, for fun.

When Disturbed hit the Orbit Room on Friday, they brought a great band with them, Nonpoint, originating from Florida, to help wreck Grand Rapids. Nonpoint hit the stage, and proceeded to get the crowd worked up and bouncing around for the whole set.

Disturbed had been away for a long time when they dropped their latest album out of nowhere on us. Everyone's been so stoked for their return, that when they announced a show in Grand Rapids, it sold out in like 45 minutes! The Orbit Room was packed to the rafters on Friday night for Disturbed's return to GR.

It's always freaking cool when bands get together and jam and have fun. Slayer, Testament, and Carcass are out on tour together right now, and just hit San Francisco. Before the show, Gary Holt, Tom Araya, Paul Bostaph, and Alex Skolnick jumped on stage to jam out some Lynyrd Skynyrd during soundcheck!

Glenn Danzig has always been a strange dude. From his early days bashing out crazy punk rock with the Misfits, to Samhain, to his solo Danzig days. He loves to take his specific sound of metal mixed with Elvis, and show lots of boobs in his videos. Lots of boobs. This is something I can totally get on board with, actually.
