City Of Grand Rapids Asking For Volunteers To Fill Sandbags, Help With Flood Prevention
Volunteers are planning to work throughout the weekend in Grand Rapids to fill thousands of sandbags as part of an effort to hold off West Michigan floodwaters.
Several media outlets were reporting Friday morning that 1,200 sandbags had already been filled, but the city is hoping to fill 50,000 of them in order to keep the Grand River at bay

Roads Flooded/Closed Across West Michigan
Some of us are considering buying the supplies to build an ark if this rain doesn't let up soon. I think it's a solid plan. Especially since, as of this morning, several roads are closed across West Michigan due to flooding. Our friends at WZZM-13 have compiled a list of the road closings that have been reported so far. Grand River Flooding Expected To Get Worse [VIDEO]
Flooding in Michigan Rivers, including the Grand River through Grand Rapids, is expected to get get worse in the next 72 hours. One to three inches of new rain is expected to send flood stages well above normal levels by the weekend. The area has already experienced above average rainfall totals, combined with average winter snowfall totals, swelling the Grand in many places.
