Carl the Turtle stopped by this morning, mainly to stare at us, but also to let you know of some great events coming up this summer.

Carl is a box turtle, more apt to be found in the woodland areas of Michigan than in the lakes and rivers. Carl is thirty years old and despite having a deformed beak is active and loves people, especially kids. He is one of the many animal ambassadors at the Zoo, so you may meet him if you get out there this summer.

And there are plenty of great events coming up at the John Ball Zoo this summer. Carl's handler, Melinda mentioned a couple of them that are coming up soon.

Princess Day is this Saturday, July 23 from 9:00am until 2:30pm. There will be some pretty famous princesses on hand like Sleeping Beauty and the Arabian Princess. Dress up as your favorite princess, prince or knight and join in on the fun!

For older zoo fans, the next Rock, Roar and Pour event is coming up on July 12. Your ticket will include a complimentary drink, live music and special animal encounters, so get yours today!

Thanks, Carl! Which by the way is a name that is somehow perfect for a turtle. Don't ask me why.
