Great Story out in the Detroit Free Press about surviving on minimum wage and not surprisingly, it's impossible.  Check out the cost of providing basic necessities such as shelter, food and transportation - it far exceeds minimum wage and the paychecks of people working full-time in low-paying job categories.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its occupational employment and wages report for May 2010. The ten largest occupations in May 2010 accounted for more than 20 percent of total employment.

Nine out of ten of these occupations are relatively low-paying jobs, meaning jobs that paid less than the U.S. mean hourly wage of $21.35.  With gas and food prices sky-rocketing, do you think you could survive on minimum wage?
