UPDATE: When the DNR went to retrieve the animal, they discovered that it was a black dog, not a bear.

On the same day the DNR sent out notice that bears would be waking up and on the move in Michigan, it appears a bear has been hit and killed in Grand Rapids.

Fox 17 reports that the body of a bear has been spotted along I-196 near the Lake Michigan Drive Exit on Thursday.

The DNR is working to remove the bear. It's not known when the bear was hit and killed.

Nearby John Ball Zoo has confirmed that the bear is not from their facility.

In the above video called "Michigan Bears are on the Move", the DNR reminds us that bears are waking up from hibernation and looking for food. Fort those in "Bear Country" they suggest putting away bird feeders away for the season. More information can be found at mi.gov/bear.
