Every time we see Avatar live they always bring a party to the stage, and we had some fun with singer Johannes Eckerstrom, who played a game of ‘Would You Rather?’ Find out why he prefers smaller club shows to festivals, why messing up onstage is no big deal for him and which member of the Beatles he would like to grab a bite to eat with. Check out our game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with Johannes Eckerstrom of Avatar:

Would you rather mess up onstage or be late for a show?

Messing up onstage we do, more or less, every evening. Coming from Sweden, you get to do lots of after school activities with music growing up and my choir teacher would say, “Just do it as if you meant it on purpose and no one will notice.” So easily that one, I hate being late for a show.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

I started to enjoy studios more as of late but still we write to put it onstage, so the stage part of touring.

Would you rather tour with a band you don’t respect or tour with a band that doesn’t respect you?

Yeah, I never ever again want to tour with a band that I don’t respect. I find it hard to care about what people think of me nowadays, part of growing up I guess. [Laughs]

Would you rather play small club shows forever or festivals forever?

Small shows because with festivals there’s a time constraint. If you say, “Do you want to headline the biggest festivals in the world all the time?,” well then, yes, but I prefer when we’re properly prepared and the theatrical show is easier to pull off even in a small club rather than on a festival stage.

Would you rather have an accordion for legs or drumsticks for hands?

Accordion for legs, way more fun and useful, drumsticks for hands you cannot do anything but play drums and who wants to do that? [Laughs]

Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who is still alive or one who has passed away? And who would it be?

One of my absolute biggest music heroes who I got to meet and interview actually was Devin Townsend, I’m a big fan of his. Unless it would bother him too much, I wouldn’t mind a lunch with him, poor guy. [Laughs] Raising people from the dead? Just thinking… George Harrison maybe? I’m a huge Beatles fan, Paul [McCartney] is alive, Ringo [Starr] is alive, John Lennon – aside from being a genius and doing so many wonderful things in music maybe he wasn’t that fun to have lunch with, I don’t know, I never knew the man. [Laughs] Just from the books, I read his ex-wife’s book, yeah so maybe George Harrison -- he seemed cool.
