This is the opening day for ArtPrize 2014.

Welcome to the festivities for the sixth annual event, which runs today through Oct. 12 in Grand Rapids.

As ArtPrize relates:

Voting for ArtPrize entries opens at noon. Round One voting goes from noon today through 11:59 p.m. Oct. 4.

Today's Big Event

At 6:30 p.m. tonight, celebrate the opening of ArtPrize 2014.

The Grand Valley State University Marching Band performs and there is also the WGVU/PBS Nerdwalk at Rosa Parks Circle, 135 Monroe Center NW, just west of the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

GVSU President Thomas J. Haas and GVSU mascot Louie the Laker will join in the festivities, which will also include a flash mob performed by the GVSU Dance Company and an opening address by Christian Gaines, ArtPrize's executive director.

The GVSU Marching Band, GVSU Dance Company and the WGVU/PBS Nerd Walk proceed through downtown and across the Blue Bridge to the L.V. Eberhard Center on GVSU's Pew Grand Rapids Campus.
