Anne Hathaway Cast As Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises
Well it's official on who will play the love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises, the next chapter in the Batman film franchise. Director Christopher Nolan announced that Anne Hathaway will play the role of Selina Kyle, who Bat-fans know is none other than Catwoman.
Hathaway beat out many other actresses to play one of two lead female roles. Selina Kyle is the on again/off again lover of Bruce Wayne/Batman, and is also the jewelry thief Catwoman, which makes things complicated for good ol' Batsy. In a press release, Nolan stated the following:
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."
While he didn't exactly state that Hathaway would be donning the Catwoman suit, it wouldn't make sense for her not to, especially since this is the last Batman film that Nolan is directing. I would feel robbed if I didn't see Anne Hathaway in skin-tight spandex.
In other Dark Knight Rises casting news, Tom Hardy will be playing mad scientist Bane. In the comics, Bane juiced himself up with a serum called Venom and broke Batman's back in DC Comics' 1993 "Knightfall" storyline. Since this is set in Nolan's more realistic Batman world, I don't expect to see Bane portrayed as the overgrown idiot like in Batman & Robin.....hopefully.
