Downtown Grand Rapids is getting a second ice skating rink for the winter, according to WOODTV.

WOODTV says that Downtown Grand Rapids Inc (or DGRI) is setting up the ice rink that has been over at Heartside Park, but this year they are moving to the parking lot where Movies on Monroe happens.

Earlier this year, DGRI moved Movies in The Park to Movies on Monroe and took over a couple of vacant parking lots at  555 Monroe Ave. NW.

This is cool, because they’ve been decorating it and making a cool outdoor space for the city, so it’s cool they’ve found a use for the space during the winter.  Also skating along the river will be a bit different from skating downtown at Rosa Parks Circle.

If the weather stays cold and the ice can freeze over, DGRI hopes to have the ice rink open by next weekend.  WOODTV says you’ll be able to skate Monday through Saturday 9 am to 9 pm and on Sunday 9 am to 4 pm.  Skating will be free to the public.
