When you usually think of first-person shooters on video games, you think games like Call of Duty, Doom, etc.

Chances are you have played such a game.

Where did it all start, though?

While it may not be the actual first first-person shooter (FPS) game out there, it is definitely credited with being the game that established it as a genre.

The game is Wolfenstein 3-D.

You most likely remember -- if at all -- Wolfenstein as a 3-D FPS game, but before it was that.

It was a pixelated game similar to Atari's Berzerk that was released on the Apple II.

The Gaming Historian has released the first part of a small series on the history of Wolfenstein. It is pretty interesting, so give a it a watch and learn a little bit about genre that is the 'norm' today.
