It seems like it doesn't take much to capture the nation's attention anymore.

Two llamas escaped their owner Thursday afternoon in Glendale, Ariz., and the Arizona pair instantly became internet phenomenons, The Arizona Republic and KPNX-TV 12 News reported.

Nearby onlookers and TV watchers followed as the llamas ran amok in a suburban west Phoenix' Sunset City West retirement community. The black-and white-pair avoided capture for more than an hour. During their time on the loose, the llamas inspired launch of their own Twitter account and hashtag, The Arizona Republic reported.

The runaway animals were eventually caught by three onlookers.

"If it weren't for (their help) we wouldn't have been able to catch them," Lt. Brandon Jones of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office told The Arizona Republic.
