An 8-year-old boy, from Grand Rapids, is currently in juvenile detention for allegedly stabbing a 12-year-old boy.

MLive reports that the incident occurred Wednesday (11/9) evening, at a house on Caufield Ave SW. The 8-year-old was fighting with his siblings when a 12-year-old boy tried to intervene. In response, the 8-year-old grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the chest area.

The victim underwent surgery and is currently recovering in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It's unknown if the boys are related but police confirmed that the two are not brothers.

Child Protective Services have started an investigation on the home that the stabbing took place at. According to WOOD-TV the boyfriend of one of the boys' mom was watching them at the time. Apparently, many kids live at the house and authorities are concerned whether "...the adults have the "ability to supervise them..."
