If you've been thinking about adopting a cat in West Michigan, now is the time!

On Monday April 6, 112 cats were surrendered to an Allegan County animal shelter.

WZZM-13 reports that according to authorities in Allegan County, a couple in Otsego started feeding stray cats.

And then the situation got out of control. The animals began to reproduce rapidly. The couple did not spay or neuter any of them, and could no longer afford to feed them.

That's when they reached out to the county for help.

The cats were taken to the Allegan Animal Shelter, which is run by Wishbone Rescue Pet Alliance.

Barbara Corcoran, executive director of Wishbone, says 20 of the cats are pregnant.

The shelter is in desperate needs of assistance in caring for all the animals.

Donations can be made on the shelter's website through PayPal or through a GoFundMe campain, set up by an area high school student looking to spread the word about the importance of spaying and neutering animals.

According to its Facebook page, the Allegan Animal Shelter also needs:

All donations can be dropped off at the shelter, which is located at 2293 33rd St. in Allegan,or adoption events hosted by the shelter.

The next adoption event is Sunday April 12, 12-4pm at the Wyoming Pet Supplies Plus on 28th St. near Byron Center Ave., and is recurring the second Sunday of each month.

The first and second Saturday of every month, adoption events are held at Chow Hounds in Jenison and Walker.

The fourth Saturday of every month, the shelter holds an adoption event at Petco in Holland.

I spoke with Natalie, part of the adoption team for the Allegan Animal Shelter who said, "We have animals driven up from the shelter and/or brought in by foster parents to events to give the public a chance to meet some of our awesome animals in 'person'. All our animals at the time of adoption are fixed, micro chipped, and up to date on vaccinations."

Find more information on adoption events at the shelter's website and  Facebook page.
