I'm an adult (so they tell me) and I don't know what I'd do if someone broke into my house. Cry?

An 11-year-old girl from Michigan's thumb area is way more ballsy than I am. She scared off an intruder by wielding a shotgun.

According to WNEM, Lapeer County police say a man forced his way into the girl's home in North Branch Township, about 35 miles northeast of Flint on Friday January 30.

The girl, who was home alone, grabbed a shotgun and hid inside a closet. Detective sergeant Jason Parks told WNEM that the girl's father is an avid hunter, and she often hunts with him. The gun was inside a gun safe inside the closet.

The intruder opened the closet door, but when she pointed the gun at him, he fled.

Authorities arrested two people in connection with the crime shortly after in Imlay City.

James Wasson, 53, of Detroit, and Rhonda Steward, 31, of Detroit, are in custody at the Lapeer County Jail. They are charged with first-degree home invasion, second-degree home invasion, and burglary tool possession.

Police say the criminal couple have hit 25 to 50 homes since December.

"Due to this little girl, her keeping her composure, she was able to observe and articulate what she saw. It definitely made a huge difference in this case and because of that ability, people are in custody," Detective Parks said.
