It's the first weekend of August and we have no shortage of events. We have festivals and pageants, food trucks, concerts, magic, movies, insane inflatables, and bung hammers...just to name a few!

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival

    The festival will feature tribute bands, ship tours, parades, fireworks, a downtown carnival and much more! This weekend’s events include Hotel California - An Eagles Tribute Band on Friday night. On Saturday at 11:45 am it will be the Meijer Grand Parade.  Saturday night it’s Material Girls Tribute, following by the big Fireworks Extravaganza!

    Abbott’s 81st Magic Get Together

    It’s the Annual Abbott's Magic Get-Together this weekend. Once again, magicians from all over the world will migrate to Colon, MI, the Magic Capital of the World, to be a part of this family oriented event. Tents and campers will magically pop up everywhere to swell this tiny little village until it appears there is no room for even one more person. Magicians will be performing in the streets, restaurants and bars. Each of the days ends with a world class magic and variety show held in the air-conditioned Colon High School Auditorium. These are not your average birthday party magicians and each show is different, with comedy, large illusions, variety acts, and much more.

    After last year's successful Food Truck Fridays, they have extended the season and will be running for 16 weeks this summer. This year they have expanded and partnered with the Grand Rapids Food Truck Association to bring you the best group of trucks we can arrange. They will be setting up near the start of the disc golf course. All trucks in attendance take credit cards, and have a variety of options including gluten free and vegan.

    Movies on Monroe

    Movies on Monroe, formerly Movies in the Park, is the premier outdoor film series in Grand Rapids. Films will be shown, free of charge, on a giant video wall along the banks of the Grand River every other Friday from June thru August. Guests are invited to treat the evening like a picnic and bring your own blanket, chairs, beer, wine and snacks for a special night under the stars. Gates open at 6:00 pm, Pre-movie entertainment begins at 6:30 pm. The first film starts at 7: 30 pm followed by an additional feature shortly after the first ends. This week’s movies are Shrek (PG) and Hidden Figures (PG).

    The West Michigan Whitecaps are paying homage to Grand Rapids, otherwise known as “Beer City”. The Whitecaps will be changing their name for Saturday’s game to “The Beer City Bung Hammers”. There will be beer, bung, and bunghammer themed games all night long as well as Family Fare Fireworks after the game. And on Sunday, it is Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Family Day. The first 1,000 kids eat free! Fans can get autographs and play catch on the field before the game from 1:15-1:30 pm. Kids Run the Bases after the game presented by Milk Means More.

    On Friday at 7:30 PM you can hear the platform speeches from the contestants and then on Saturday it will be the crowning gala. The event will be streamed live on Facebook on the official Ms. Wheelchair America facebook page.
